A park on a beautiful sunny day can be more enjoyable that a day out for most kids. There are hundreds of places in Scotland that you could take your kids. Here are some of the best places at your fingertips that your kids are sure to enjoy.
Mugdock Country Park
Mugdock country park is a great place to take your kids this summer. With a huge area for them to run about in, it will be you doing all the chasing to keep up with them. The park is also a historical site that is located in East Dunbartonshire and Stirling. Mugdock also includes the remains of the 14th century Mugdock castle. As well as this, the park is home to the ruins of the 19th century Craigend castle. This castle was a gothic revival mansion and a former zoo. Therefore, plenty for the kids to explore and learn.
The country park has a moot hill and a gallowhill, both historical reminders of the baronial feudal fight that was held by Lairds of pit and gallows. Mugdock is also home to the remains of numerous World War anti- aircraft trenches. These trenches were established in 1942 to form part of the Clyde Basin anti-aircraft defence system.
As well as being deep in history the park also has many natural features. These include; Mugdock Loch, Allander water and Drumclog Muir. These amazing features not only provide amazing photo opportunities but also great cycling routes that you can enjoy with your children.
Pollok Country Park
This park is not to be missed. The 360 acres of stunning country park is located in Pollok, south of Glasgow. This award-winning park was named the best park in Britain in 2006. It then went on to win the best park in Europe in 2008!
The park has been around for years and has many fun things that children will enjoy. The vast land and great countryside, make Pollok country park an amazing place to take your kids. Let them burn off their energy with long walks and grassy hills. This is also a great park to take your dogs. Let the whole family love this wonderful space.
Southwest of Glasgow lies the incredible Rouken Glen park in Giffnock. The glen has many great features that your kids will love. The Rouken Glen is a typical Edwardian urban park. It has a boating pond that was created in 1923 by Sir Robert McAlpine to replace a former curling pond.
The park also has a stunning large waterfall that is surrounded by deep woodland. This magical park will give you and your children plenty to explore and investigate. The waterfall is based on a natural waterfall, doubled in height to form a reservoir to supply the print works downstream during the early 19th century.
The Glen was also part of the former manor, Birkenshaw house. There is still a walled garden in the grounds which you can look about and enjoy.
