Every parent wants their child to be responsible and to take responsibility for his actions. However, here s one thing certain, it takes real effort on your part to raise responsible kids. Below are some tips to help you raise kids:
Clarify Roles
Children’s imagination is often running riot, and so it is important that parents try to put a clearly defined role for each of them in the home. Children are easily distracted by their surroundings, and so it is important to keep a sharp eye on what is expected of each of them. Children with independent and responsible parents are far more likely to achieve things in life. On the other hand, kids with spoiled and irresponsible parents are likely to get into all sorts of trouble, including school delinquency and criminal activity. Kids learn by example, and if their parents are responsible and teach them to be responsible, so they are also likely to learn the value of responsibility.
Give Rewards
It is important to reward kids for good behaviour. Rewards should always be positive, and they should be small but consistent. Kids are eminently interested in getting something for themselves and so will always try to get themselves “bigger” than they already are. This is a vicious cycle, and if parents don t just stop and think about the incentive problem, they will probably find that their methods of raising responsible children will be flawed. Instead of just rewarding good behaviour, parents need to work very hard to ensure that kids get a regular dose of positive reinforcement. This is an important lesson in self-control, and kids need to learn this valuable trait early on.
Start Early
Every parent should get started teaching their kids about consequences when they are young. Kids learn by getting caught, and if they see that mom or dad got caught doing something improper, they learn by getting caught themselves. As such, it makes perfect sense to get started at a young age to prevent the learning curve from being too steep. Of course, as the child gets older, they may not want to pay attention if they believe they are getting away with something. In this case, however, parents should never punish their kids for what they did when they are still too young. Learning by doing is much more beneficial than simply pointing fingers in front of the child and saying, “You do it!”
Keep The Learning Process Fun
Learning is an integral part of growing up, and so is the enjoyment of parenting. When kids see that parents are having a great time learning and actually making things work together, they are far more likely to take parenting seriously. All parents should make parenting a fun experience for kids, and this lesson should be no different. This does not mean that parents have to schedule endless playdates or completely cut out all entertainment, but it does mean that parents should find ways to balance their time effectively between work and play.
Raising kids can be an exercise in patience, and parents need to exercise that often in order to keep their kids accountable. One great way to do this is to use the daily task of cleaning the house to teach kids responsibility. Kids learn quickly when they see that mom or dad are making sure that every spot is tidied and free of crumbs, toys, or food wrappers.
